Two. weeks.

Yup, I have exactly 2 weeks left here. 14 days. I’m absolutely counting down the days, and I don’t feel bad about it. I’m looking forward to seeing my friends and family, and being back in the United States. Don’t get me wrong - there are many things I like about the Netherlands. About Europe. But right now - more than ever - I am so very anxious for this program to be over.

I would explain exactly how I am feeling (and how I’ve felt this entire time) but I’m afraid I’ll confuse you all. To be short, it was a very bittersweet experience. It wasn’t as simple as just enjoying my surroundings and “taking it all in”. There were many, many hurdles I had to overcome, especially when I was traveling. If I had the option of going back in time and making a different decision, I still would have chosen to come to Kasteel Well. It’s true that I don’t love it here; I’m not going to pretend that I do. But I learned some very important things about myself that I wouldn’t have necessarily learned until I was taken far out of my comfort zone. Until I was lost in a foreign country and had to seek directions without even knowing how to say “hello” in their language. Until I had to attempt to wrap my head around using three different currencies in three weeks. There were a lot of lessons to be learned. I did more growing up in three months than I have in a few years.

So yes, right now, I’m feeling very anxious to go back home. I’m longing to see familiar faces, places, and customs (and not having to deal with ridiculous exchange rates). For these next two weeks, I’m going to focus on getting my 2 presentations, papers, and finals done. Maybe take a last long walk throughout the tiny village of Well in this beautiful 60 - 70 degree weather. I’m currently sitting on my windowsill and I’m quite comfy being in the sunshine. Unfortunately, I have Lit. class in fifteen minutes, so I should get up sometime soon.

I didn’t intend for this to be an actual post, but I guess that’s what it turned into. I promise I’ll update about last weekend in Paris soon (I have some much-needed catching up to do with homework and projects). Tomorrow night I’m going on an overnight bus to return to Paris. I’m going to the Palace of Versailles on Saturday. The place I have been obsessed with since sophomore year of high school… my dream is really coming true, and so soon!

Hopefully I’ll be able to update before I leave! If not, I’ll make it up to you all by going more into detail about my experiences in France!
